In a space between abstraction and lyrical imagery, Famie Fairnie allows her subconscious to play and imagine freely in her explorations of mark-making and colour. All are linked to childhood emotions and observations of the city walls of Bristol, London, Barcelona and New York.

She works in a mixture of oils, chalks, sand and cements to create walls full of history, overlaid with hidden messages and symbolic meanings. Themes of love, absence, longing, beauty, hope and pain tangle for attention.

Sand, cement, paste and paint applied in layers by the artist’s hand create a sense of the ravaged beauty of time passing. A gentle yet complex mix of emotion and turmoil depicts a hauntingly fragile landscape.

The colours create a brooding yet soulful palette of tones. Light attempts to find a way through the raw surface textures of the paint.
