The Monochrome series is a collection of ink and charcoal pieces by Famie Fairnie. This includes a charcoal series inspired by her late father artist Steve Fairnie MA(RCA). Spending time with earlier examples of his work, she adapted shapes and tones found there to begin to create her own marks within a monotone palette.

What she found so distinctive and special about the project was that it felt like a conversation between herself and her father. She says: ‘I was carrying through the thread of work he had begun. There is something quite extraordinary about that – connecting with emotions on such a raw level.’

Together with pictures in charcoal, the Archive also features a series of life drawings, a constant backbone of her work.
